Q&A 4-11-2008

Apr 11, 2008
Esperanza
The pool at Esperanza overlooks
the resort’s secluded beach cove.
For over seven years, Jerri Lynn Walker has put her extensive knowledge of Baja to the test, working in sales for Los Cabos’ Esperanza, the 57-room resort whose spa was ranked number one in the world by Conde Nast Traveler this year. While the resort has received a facelift, Los Cabos is undergoing a makeover all its own.

Some may not know that San Jose del Cabo has a marina. Is it attracting a new clientele?

Well, since the original marina, Marina Cabo San Lucas, has no more slips available, I think that the new 500-slip marina in San Jose del Cabo is going to reach out further to the elite traveler and fisherman. Anglers like the location because it’s closer to Gordo Banks, and the new marina, Puerto Los Cabos, caters to luxury megayachts. There’s also going to be an authentic town plaza, shopping, restaurants and a marketplace alongside the marina. It will really bring additional exposure to the destination as a whole.

With such changes, how is Esperanza keeping current?

In early December 2007, we created one-bedroom suites and the [more than 2,000-square-foot] penthouse suite, reconfigured the luxury suites and added an infinity-edge Jacuzzi to the majority of our rooms. Eight treatment rooms one of which is a couple’s room and an expanded spa treatment menu were also part of our recent upgrade.

What advice do you have for clients who only have a couple of days to vacation?

If you’re just looking to relax, there’s really no need to look further than the resort’s pool, spa and restaurants. Our full-service resort has a variety of unique activities including a Cocina del Sol cooking class, Mexican Wine Journey program, art classes and private art gallery tours in San Jose del Cabo.

What other activities are within close proximity?

Two championship golf courses are within a five-minute drive, and we’re only about a 10-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas, where guests can enjoy just about any type of water activity, from sailing to jet-skiing even swimming with the dolphins.
