How has your background suited you to life on Molokai?
I was born and raised on the small Caribbean island of Nevis. After 10 years in Connecticut and 14 years in Key West, Fla., I moved to Molokai. Since then, my life has slowed down quite a bit, since the pace is much more laid-back here.
What is your favorite outdoor activity on Molokai?
I live a very simple life on this island. After a long day at work, I enjoy taking a leisurely stroll along the beach to relax my mind and remove stress. I also like listening and talking with locals and visitors.
When friends visit you on Molokai, what island highlights do you share with them?
I definitely suggest spending time on our deserted beaches, such as three-mile Papohaku on the west side. Visitors should check out Halawa Valley with its beautiful waterfalls. And an absolute must is the former leper colony of Kalaupapa, because of the powerful story it tells.
What Molokai restaurants do you recommend?
I love Hula Shores, here at our hotel. It’s right on the ocean and offers great, fresh seafood. My favorite dish is the whole grilled opakapaka with a black ginger sauce and grilled veggies.
