Smithsonian Journeys recently teamed up with Thomson Family Adventures to offer families a new series of educational adventures starting this summer. The series will feature five new destinations — China, Costa Rica, Peru, Tanzania and Turkey.
In China, families will tour several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Hanyang Tomb and the Temple of Heaven, and have the opportunity to help local artisans restore the Great Wall. Families will be given bricks and tools, and local artisans will demonstrate how to do the repairs. Rates for adults start at $5,990 per person, and rates for children start at $5,490.
Recommended for families with kids ages 8 and older, the Tanzania Safari allows families to experience wildlife up close, accompanied by a professional photographer who will offer instruction. Guests will interact with the Maasai people and go on a guided VIP tour with an archaeologist to get a behind-the-scenes look at the current digs at Olduvai Gorge. Based on double occupancy, tour rates start at $6,590 for adults and $5,590 for children. www.smithsonianjourneys.org
