Adventurous clients looking to get off the grid summer have several heart-pounding options, whether it’s tracking cheetahs in Namibia, rafting and hiking through the Grand Canyon or hiking up Table Mountain in South Africa. Here are six of our favorite new adrenaline-inducing tours.
Search for Cheetahs and Track Giraffes in NamibiaTeam up with researchers and conservationists to track Africa’s wildlife with Wilderness Travel’s Giraffe Conservation and Safari tour in Namibia. The 13-day trip — which is limited to groups of six or fewer — begins at the AfriCat Foundation, where travelers will search for leopards and cheetahs on foot.
As the tour continues through the country, clients will encounter more animals, such as elephants and rhinos, while taking in the beautiful Namibian landscape (45 percent of which is under conservation management). The trip concludes at the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, where visitors will have the chance to track and radio-collar giraffes for research purposes.
The rate for this tour, which has a July departure in 2017 and two additional departures in 2018, begins at $10,895. A single supplement is an additional $1,080.
Sail to Cuba With Abercrombie & KentAfter a successful inaugural season in 2017, Abercrombie & Kent has renewed its Cuba by Land and Sea cruise with announced dates for 2018. The intimate 11-day sailings are limited to 56 guests per voyage.
The route, which starts in Havana and ends in Santiago de Cuba (or vice versa), allows guests to interact with locals and learn about the nation’s history and culture. Highlights of the itinerary include a snorkel and swim in Punta Frances Marine National Park and a guided hike to a mangrove forest.
The first trip of 2018 takes place from Feb. 23 to March 5, and the second trip is scheduled for March 1-12. The rate begins at $9,995 per person, based on double occupancy.
Raft, Hike and Swim Through the Grand Canyon Adrenaline junkies can get their fix with The Ultimate Grand Canyon Vacation from Western River Expeditions.
This six- or seven-day itinerary covers 188 miles of the Colorado River and has adventurers experiencing Class III to V whitewater rapids. In addition to rafting, participants will take part in daily hikes to streams, pools, glens and ancient Anasazi ruins. The trip ends with a helicopter ride to Bar Ten Ranch for a shower and lunch. Guests must be at least 12 years old to participate.
Rates begin at $2,699, and clients will be charged an additional $12 entrance fee.
Avanti Offers New Wales Hiking Tour Avanti Destinations’ new self-guided hiking tour through North Wales will have clients exploring the best of the region’s coastline. Stops on this tour include Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conwy, Llanfairfechan and Bangor, with each hike ranging between one to three hours per day between towns. Along the way, clients can go at their own pace on trails that will lead them through rock quarries and historical sites.
Agents can book this trip now through October, with rates starting at $819 per person, based on double occupancy. The rate includes accommodations; luggage transfers; roundtrip transfers from Manchester or Liverpool in the U.K.; and daily breakfast.
Sail and Bike the Rhine RiverFor eight days, clients can bike along the Rhine River with The Ultimate Active River Experience from Butterfield & Robinson and Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection. Guests will depart from Basel, Switzerland, and finish in Amsterdam, with stops at various French and German ports along the way. While docked, clients will pedal through towns including Strasbourg in France and Speyer and Cologne in Germany. Highlights include a visit to Wurth Museum in Erstein, France, and time at Marksburg Castle in Koblenz, Germany.

Adventure Through Southern Africa Clients on African Travel, Inc.’s Thrilling Adventure in Southern Africa will take part in heart-pumping activities in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe for 11 days. The itinerary begins in South Africa with a hike up Cape Town’s Table Mountain, where travelers will rappel down a steep slope that overlooks the city. They will then board a boat and sail to Dyer Island, a perfect spot to cage dive with sharks.
The tour then heads to Botswana’s Tuli Game Reserve, where explorers will spend the next few days on safari looking for some of Africa’s most well-known animals. Finally, guests will spend the remainder of their trip in Zimbabwe visiting Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Park.
