Gate 1 Travel is helping to support Thailand’s tsunami recovery
effort by continuing its program of tours and independent packages.
Despite the disaster, the company reports that bookings to Thailand
have been strong. Most of its itineraries concentrate on Bangkok,
which is 500 miles north of Phuket. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, in
the north, are nearly 1,000 miles away.
Gate 1 vice president of sales and marketing, Ilene Braun said,
"Phuket itself was 80 percent untouched, with only 10 percent of
its beaches affected. The surrounding areas are expected to be
completely rebuilt within a few months.”
Braun also pointed out that there are currently no U.S. State
Department warnings against travel to Thailand. And: "Although we
have diverted our Phuket guests to Kosamui on the Gulf of Thailand,
the rest of Thailand remains open and eager for business as
usual.”
Braun feels that the Thai people need the support of tourism
more than ever and Gate 1 is responding by keeping all its programs
operating at full capacity. Gate 1’s customers are responding too,
Braun says. "Letters from returning travelers indicate they have
had a wonderful time and are very impressed with the Thai
people."
Gate 1 Travel offers a wide variety of packages and tours to
Thailand with roundtrip airfare from Los Angeles. Low-cost add-on
fares are available from cities nationwide. Airport security fees
of up to $200 are additional.
A seven-day “Affordable Thailand” independent stay in Bangkok
with five nights at the Bangkok City Inn is priced from $599 per
person, double occupancy, including roundtrip air fare from Los
Angeles and airport transfers. Upgraded hotels are available.
Optional sightseeing excursions are available from $17 for a
half-day tour of Bangkok. There are also 12 and 15-Day “Affordable
Thailand” options.
