This year’s Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Grand and Gold Awards honored the achievements of 24 organizations and individuals in the travel industry. The awards ceremony took place on Sept. 17 at the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel in Macau during Travel Mart 2010, PATA’s annual travel trade show.
The Grand and Gold Awards seek to honor outstanding travel professionals in four principal categories: marketing, education and training, environment and heritage. The Grand Award in marketing went to Tourism New Zealand for its “100% Pure New Zealand” film competition, which gave amateur filmmakers the chance to make a promotional film for New Zealand that was then included in a marketing campaign. The Banyan Tree Spa Academy won the Grand Award for education and training due to its extremely specialized therapist training. AlamKulKul Boutique Resort in Bali won the Grand Award for environment for its Green Heart environmental conservation program, which included beach clean ups and mass tree planting. The Ministry of Tourism for the Government of India won the Grand Award in the heritage category for its Rural Tourism Project.
“Our congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding achievements, which are also excellent examples to encourage the industry to pursue excellence, innovation and advancement. We look forward to welcoming the winners as well as travel trade stakeholders, to the PATA Travel Mart 2010 in Macau this September,” said João Manuel Costa Antunes, director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, which has sponsored the PATA Gold Awards for the past 15 years.
