With a growing number of budget carriers linking Singapore and
other Southeast Asia destinations, officials have opened a Budget
Terminal at Changi Airport.
The no-frills terminal offers cost savings for airlines which also
are passed on to travelers, who can save more than 50 percent on
the airport’s passenger service charge, Singapore officials
said.
The terminal, a five-minute shuttle ride from Changi’s two main
terminals, still offers common airport features including food and
beverage outlets and duty-free shopping.
The airport also has other upgrades planned, including a third
terminal expected to open in early 2008. The seven-story terminal
will boost airport capacity to 64 million passengers a year and
will include an adjoining nine-story hotel.
Meanwhile, Changi also plans to open a luxury facility in August
that is targeted at passengers arriving or departing the airport on
commercial or private aircraft.
The premium two-story facility will offer personalized
services
including independent check-in, luggage and immigration processes.
It also will feature a five-star lounge, business center, retail
outlets and a gym.
