A luxury beachfront resort on China’s second-largest island
known as the “Hawaii of China” will open later this year with 292
oversized guestrooms, suites and more than a dozen private villas
overlooking the South China Sea.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will manage the resort on Hainan
Island and said the Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, will be designed to
appeal to sophisticated travelers in search of serenity and
tranquility on a more than two-acre beachfront site on Dadonghai
Bay.
The resort’s guestrooms, suites, villas and public areas will have
views of the sea, and most guestrooms designed with a blend of
contemporary northern Chinese architecture and delicate Asian
touches will have direct access to the secluded beach along with
private gardens with timber decks and trellises.
The prime feature of the resort, however, will be more than a dozen
2,150-square-foot private villas and 23 oversized suites, each with
its own personal infinity-edge pool and garden and relaxation
pavilions.
“Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, with its ideal setting on one of the
most secluded beaches in the region, is positioned to become the
most sophisticated beach resort in mainland China,” said Edouard
Ettedgui, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Group.
The resort is an approximately five-minute drive from Sanya City,
about 12 miles from the city’s international airport, and will
include a variety of dining options at seven restaurants and bars.
It also will be the only resort in the area to offer banquet and
conference facilities in an outdoor environment with expansive
ocean views.
The 5,165-square-foot grand ballroom will accommodate up to 300
guests and will feature advanced audio-visual technology. In
addition, there will be five conference rooms, each with extensive
pre-function courtyards with sea views.
A 34,400-square-foot Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Sanya will feature
an elevated, “floating” reception area and each of ten private
treatment villas will offer state-of-the-art heat and water
experiences and outdoor gardens for relaxation, outdoor treatments
or private yoga classes. Other wellness facilities will include a
fitness center, beauty salon and two tennis courts.
Mandarin Oriental, Sanya will also feature two landscaped infinity
pools with direct access to the beach, as well as organized water
sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving. In addition, the resort
will encompass an upscale retail facility, fully equipped business
center, library, reading room, games room and children’s
center.
Hainan Island is located at approximately the same latitude as
Hawaii and is separated from mainland China by the Hainan Strait,
about 50 minutes south of Hong Kong by air.
