Anguilla is heading into the New Year with a new resort, travel service and an activity designed to entice both new visitors and repeat travelers. Viceroy Anguilla Resorts & Residences is the first luxury resort to open on the island in nine years. It’s set on 35 acres of beachfront land along Barnes and Meads Bay.
The resort consists of 166 homes comprised of freestanding villas, townhomes, penthouses and single-story resort residence buildings. Interiors have been created by Kelly Wearstler (she also handled the interior design for Viceroy properties in Santa Monica, Palm Springs and Miami). Guests will find such sophisticated Wearstler touches as driftwood lamps, tables of petrified wood, travertine marble floors and hammered metalwork from India.
Viceroy Anguilla’s signature restaurant is Coba, offering Pan-Asian cuisine utilizing local seafood. There’s also an infinity pool and an 8,000 square foot spa.
By now, most travelers are familiar with Joseph Campbell’s famous recipe for happiness, “Follow your bliss.” That seems to be exactly what Ronnie Bryan is doing. Bryan is a professional road cycling competitor who’s represented Anguilla at the Commonwealth Games and other regional games. He also owns Bryan’s Car Rental, a small car rental company on Anguilla that has expanded its services to include road bike rentals. The bikes rent for $20 per day and include a fully-fitted bike and helmet. Cyclists can also opt for The Eagle’s Eye Package where they can cycle the island with Bryan during one of his training sessions.
Families considering a vacation in Anguilla can also take advantage of the services offered by Travel Lite, Anguilla. The company alleviates some of the hassle of traveling with young children by providing brand-name equipment waiting for parents on arrival on the island. This includes such items as cribs, play pens and car seats. All items are delivered and assembled, so there’s no lugging or tracking of baby gear through airports. Travel Lite, Anguilla also uses equipment certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.
