Mix on the Beach comes to the Caribbean

Sep 08, 2009

W Retreat & Spa, Vieques Island is poised to open its doors to travelers on Nov. 19. As the first W Retreat & Spa in the Caribbean, the resort will have 157 rooms and suites, a Sweat Fitness Center and Spa Chakra.

Vieques Island, encompassing 55 square miles, is located eight miles off the Southeast coast of Puerto Rico and is celebrated for its natural beauty and laid back pace. Perhaps it was these qualities that inspired the renowned chef, Alain Ducasse, to open his first Caribbean outpost, Mix on the Beach, at there.

Ducasse’s cooking has always been rooted in the coastal flavors of the Mediterranean, from the Basque Country to the French Riviera and Italy. We can expect to see a sophisticated choice of dishes exploring colorful Latino Caribbean flavors with an artful French twist, all with an eye to keeping it fresh and light. Mix will offer a selection of local produce from its own garden, including papaya, avocado, cashew fruit, tamarind, star fruit, guava, pumpkin squash, pigeon peas and sweet peppers. Clients will have to wait to see what Ducasse and executive chef Dagan Lynn concoct as their signature dish and cocktail, since the menu is still in the creation stage.

Open for breakfast and dinner, Mix on the beach includes both indoor and outdoor dining with impressive ocean and pool views. For the very best views, clients should request one of the outdoor tables. Once Mix on the beach is up and running, travelers will be able to make reservations in advance of arrival.

In addition to Mix on the beach, Alain Ducasse Enterprise will also manage the entire food and beverage program for the resort, which includes W Cafe, the Living Room Bar, Wet Poolside, the W Welcome Lounge at Vieques Airport, in-room dining and all banquet and wedding events.

The Living Room Bar, which boasts a patio and fire pit, shifts into gear in the late afternoon, when guests can chill out while enjoying a selection cocktails and snacks. Wet Poolside serves cocktails and Mediterranean cuisine alongside the resort’s two pools. W Cafe provides light snacks and beverages and can prepare take away meals packed in gourmet picnic boxes for those setting off on excursions around the island.
