The 13th annual St. Kitts Music Festival, held this year from June 26-28 at the Warner Park Stadium, Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, has recently released its lineup to the public. On Thursday, June 25, Mavado, The Grand Masters Band, King Konris, Lord Nelson and the Lejah Band featuring Biggie Ire will kick off the event. The following day, Stephen Marley, Burning Spear, Beres Hammon and the Odisi Band will take the stage. On the last day, Saturday, June 27, T-Pain, KC & The Sunshine Band and Regina Belle will perform.
The St. Kitts Music Festival has become a well-known event attracting international visitors and locals alike with a mix of musical styles from jazz to hip-hop. Past artists have included Wyclef Jean and the Temptations.
According to the event’s Web site (www.stkittsmusicfestival.com), the mission of the St. Kitts Music Festival is simple: to establish a world renowned annual festival of different music genres, that would attract a broad, international base, expose artistic excellence and promote the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as a major tourist destination.
In 1996, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis, realized the need to create an event that would enhance its tourism product and strategically position St. Kitts and Nevis as a major player in the tourism marketplace, particularly during the off season (May through October). The St. Kitts Music Festival is a collaboration among private sector entities and a host of dedicated volunteers.
Festival tickets are $50.00 per person, per night, and will soon be available for purchase on the event’s Web site.
