Travelers who are planning to visit Peru in April 2016 can still include Machu Picchu in their itinerary, despite scheduled maintenance on Huayna Picchu from April 1-15 and on Machu Picchu Mountain from April 16-30. Though each mountain will be closed during its respective maintenance, the temporary closures will not affect visitation to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The Sanctuary of Machu Picchu has separate access and comprises the greater majority of the ruins, including the Inca Bridge, the Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana and the Sacred Plaza.
According to PromPeru, Peru’s official tourism board, the scheduled maintenance will improve factors such as the mountain’s lithic elements, including steps on the hiking trails.
G Adventures has also confirmed that Machu Picchu will remain open.
"There has been some misunderstanding that because of the maintenance works occurring on Machu Picchu Mountain and Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu itself would also be closed in April 2016,” said Steve Lima, U.S marketing manager for G Adventures. “This is not the case, and normal access to Machu Picchu will remain for travelers.”
