The last of Windstar Cruises’ three motorized sailing yachts,
the Wind Star, has completed its Degrees of Difference upgrades.
Enhancements aboard the 148-guest Wind Star include remodeled
bathrooms in all staterooms, an expanded beauty salon and a
refurbished lounge.
Stateroom bathrooms now have a more contemporary look with new
fixtures, open glass shelves, new cabinets, granite countertops,
porcelain sinks and a magnifying mirror. In the Lounge, the bar was
relocated to a central and visible location near the back of the
room and refreshed with reupholstered furniture, new carpet,
ceiling, lighting and wall coverings.
The Salon aboard Wind Star has moved from deck one to deck three
by the Lounge, providing additional space for relaxation. Expanding
into the area vacated by the bar, salon space has doubled to
include a new waiting area, two separate massage rooms, an area for
facials and hair/nail treatments and pedicure chair. The number of
massage appointments available for guests has also doubled.
Other additions in guest areas include new tables and chairs in
the Veranda, a new couch and ceiling in the Lobby and upgrades to
public bathrooms.
Windstar invested in luxury amenities to its fleet in 2006.
Those upgrades include wireless Internet throughout each ship,
along with Bose SoundDock speakers in all staterooms, Apple iPod
Nanos pre-loaded with music for complimentary check-out, and
laptops for rent. Plush Euro-Top mattresses, luxury bedding,
Egyptian cotton towels and bath amenities by L’Occitane were added
to staterooms as well. Other additions include lemon-scented iced
towels and orange sorbet served on warm days.
In The Restaurant, enhancements include a revamped menu, new
wine list featuring more boutique labels plus the flexibility to
purchase wine in ports along the ships’ itineraries; and
petit-fours served with coffee at the end of dinner.
The four-masted Wind Star will sail roundtrip from Costa Rica
January through March with a limited amount of Panama Canal cruises
in the spring and winter, returning to the Greek Isles from May to
October and offering a few Mediterranean itineraries in late spring
and late fall. The 312-guest Wind Surf completed Degrees of
Difference upgrades in December 2006 and the 148-guest Wind Spirit
completed upgrades in April 2007. The ships of Windstar carry from
148 to 312 guests, and cruise to nearly 50 nations, calling at 100
ports throughout Europe, the Caribbean and the Americas.
