Margaret Awamura Inouye, wife of Hawaii Sen. Daniel Inouye, will
christen NCL America’s Pride of Aloha on July 4 in Honolulu.
The Pride launches NCL’s new U.S.-flagged cruise operations in
Hawaii on that patriotic holiday.
“The Inouye family has a long history supporting the U.S.
maritime industry, and thanks to their support, NCL is now able to
show travelers the best of Hawaii aboard a seven-day, inter-island
U.S.-flagged cruise ship staffed by U.S. seafarers,” said NCL
President Colin Veitch.
The Pride of Aloha will sail from Honolulu and call at
Nawiliwili, Kauai; Hilo and Kona, Hawaii; and Kahului, Maui.
The 77,000-ton, 2,000-passenger ship has undergone a
multimillion renovation, giving it a “Best of Hawaii” theme
throughout.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian Star completed a major renovation and
is bound for a year based in the West Coast.
Additions to the ship include a 1930s-style Cagney’s steakhouse
and a 10,000-square-foot casino.
The ship started an Alaska program on May 30 from Seattle,
operating a weekly itinerary to Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and
Victoria and cruising Glacier Bay. Starting Sept. 26, the Norwegian
Star will inaugurate a new program out of the Port of Los
Angeles.
The eight-day itinerary includes calls at Acapulco, Zihuatanejo,
Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas.
