New Wellness Program on Silversea

May 09, 2006

Silversea Cruises is catering to health-conscious travelers with a new, multi-faceted “Wellness Program.” Incorporating exercise and nutrition programs, various fitness activities, spa therapies and healthy dining options, the Wellness Program provides guests with a rejuvenating experience at sea.
Each day, guests will receive a schedule of Wellness Program activities and seminars, developed by the fitness experts of Silversea’s award-winning Mandara Spa. The comprehensive fitness regimen includes popular workout programs such as aerobics (including aqua and step), Pilates, circuit training, and yoga. On Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, fitness centers will be expanded to include an additional 300 square feet for new cardiovascular training equipment.
A typical day on the Wellness Program might include a sunrise morning walk and yoga class followed by a late-morning seminar on nutrition, exploring the pros and cons of popular diets. In the afternoon, guests might choose to attend a seminar on healthy backs and abs, followed by a circuit-weight workout. Guests can wind down at the end of the day with exercises to stretch and relax, under the careful guidance of a professional fitness instructor.
The Wellness Program guide will offer a daily sampling of lunch and dinner selections to complement the roster of fitness activities and seminars. Many of the light and low-carb options are from the line’s “Collection du Monde” signature dishes, created in collaboration with Relais & Chateaux chef Jacques Thorel, owner of Michelin two-star L’Auberge Bretonne, a “Relais Gourmand” restaurant in La Roche-Bernard, Brittany, France. Light menu selections feature fresh fish, lean meats, seasonal fruits and vegetables, olive oil and sugar substitutes, and vary between 100 and 300 calories. Sugar-free desserts are less than 200 calories. Low-carb dining options feature appetizers, soups and salads containing no more than five grams of carbohydrates and main courses that vary between ten and fifteen grams. At breakfast, Silversea guests can enjoy a refreshing carrot and tangerine cooler, a mango, peach and apricot fizz or a thyme-scented plum crush just a few of several new “vitamin-booster” juice blends served at bbreakfast and made from the freshest raw fruits and vegetables. Also available for breakfast are new low-fat yogurt smoothies with names like Mango and Banana Tango, Cucumber and Mint Reviver and Fragrant Fusion (made with fresh mango, papaya and passion fruit).
All organized group fitness classes and seminars are complimentary. Personalized, one-on-one training programs and spa therapies are offered at an additional charge.
