Silversea Names Polar-Bound Vessel

Mar 08, 2008

Following a naming ceremony in Monte Carlo on June 12, Silversea’s adventure ship, the HSH Prince Albert II, will embark on its first journey, departing from London and sailing to the polar region, an area that holds special interest to the Prince of Monaco himself. The ship and the prince share a commitment to the exploration and conservation of earth’s oceans, wildlife and indigenous cultures.

In 2006, Prince Albert II was the first incumbent head of state to visit the North Pole, where he conducted scientific research and raised awareness about the effects of global warming.

“His passion for environmental conservation is well known and we are committed to supporting his mission by offering travelers the chance to discover and appreciate some of the world’s most remote and unspoiled regions,” said Manfredi Lefebvre, Silversea’s chairman.

Silversea is also proud to introduce a new vessel that offers the opportunity to adventure and explore with a comfortable and luxurious home base. In fact, in preparation for the inaugural season of voyages, the 132-guest ship is currently undergoing extensive multi-million dollar renovations in Trieste, Italy. The refurbishment will include exterior redesigns, the latest technological enhancements and a comprehensive upgrade of the 66 oceanview rooms and 18 guest suites.

On the adventure front, the ship is also being outfitted with eight of the latest Zodiac boats, with low emission Yamaha four-stroke engines, for up-close and eco-friendly exploration. Under the guidance of Conrad Combrink, the newly appointed director of expeditions, the HSH Prince Albert II will also feature an expedition team of lecturers and experts with special lectures and education sessions on the destination regions.

Starting at $3,867 per person, based on double occupancy, Silversea’s Inaugural Season all-inclusive itineraries range from 10 to 21 days. Summer destinations include the Arctic Circle, Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland. Fall and winter destinations include North and South America, Antarctica, the Panama Canal, Ushuaia and more. With the variety of Silversea destinations, guests aboard the HSH Prince Albert II can sail for up to 48 days on back-to-back voyages without repeating a single Zodiac landing site.
