The nation’s 250th anniversary is shaping up to be a good opportunity to take a timely trip onboard American Cruise Lines, Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line. For clients seeking a last-minute celebration, here’s where to point them.
American Cruise Lines
American Cruise Lines will celebrate the Fourth of July across the brand’s entire domestic fleet with a branded America250 logo and badge (including collectible pins and other keepsakes), along with special guest experiences and enrichment programming.
The line will also showcase everything from a 250th-inspired game show and historical trivia to red, white and blue-themed cocktails and desserts, as well as grand fireworks displays and additional patriotic events wherever its ships are positioned for the holiday. Already underway, the line’s signature Great United States Cruise will even include pyrotechnics over Boston Harbor.
Carnival Cruise Line
Carnival Cruise Line will celebrate the nation’s milestone birthday with festivities of its own.
Among the offerings will be special fleet-wide onboard activities, community homeport celebrations, coastal fireworks and ship meet-ups. U.S.-based vessels will also sport a new crest displaying “From Sea to Shining Sea” across their bows.
“As America’s cruise line, we are bringing the fun from coast to coast so everyone can celebrate,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “There is no better way to honor this milestone than by bringing people together to salute our nation and create unforgettable moments at sea and ashore.”
Specifically onboard, accoutrements and activities will include 250th birthday banners and decor, 40-foot inflatables, “US Yay!” parties with balloon drops and appearances from Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat, additional “Red, White and Blue” deck festivities and special foods and beverages such as strawberry shortcake, limited-edition “America250” souvenir Coca-Cola cans and “America’s Cruisin’” beer.
“One military family on each sailing the week of July 4 will receive an American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol,” according to the line. “All veterans and active-duty military on those sailings will also receive a special edition military pin.”
Ship meet-ups will include seven East Coast sailings to rendezvous near the line’s private Celebration Key in the Bahamas for a fireworks show, in addition to three West Coast sailings showcasing Port of San Diego’s Big Bay Boom, where Carnival is the official cruise line sponsor.
Other homeport celebrations will take place onboard Carnival Pride in Baltimore on June 28; Carnival Radiance in Long Beach, Calif., on June 30; Carnival Elation in Jacksonville and Carnival Paradise in Tampa, Fla., on July 2. Carnival will also sponsor the Virginia Sail250 Fireworks Show on June 20 and the Miami-Dade 250 Independence Day Celebration on July 4.
Holland America Line
Another historic brand set to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary across its fleet will be Holland America Line (HAL). Besides its special July 4 Zuiderdam voyage from Boston, the line will highlight onboard programming, culinary experiences, live music and commemorative keepsakes on every holiday sailing. From Alaska to Canada/New England, guests will receive a special America’s 250th anniversary pin.
“We’re excited to bring the spirit of America’s 250th anniversary to life across our fleet with experiences that feel both celebratory and uniquely Holland America Line,” said Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line. “From live entertainment and themed events to American-inspired dining and our special ‘Stars & Stripes’ cruise, these experiences are designed to capture the energy and pride that make this milestone so meaningful. We have worked with intention to create moments that feel fun, memorable and connective.”
As for commemorative entertainment and activities, North American-based HAL ships will roll out the red carpet with musical “Soundtrack of America” performances, while Zuiderdam will present a “Great American Songbook” concert. On Independence Day, the vessels will offer themed trivia, interactive lawn games, scavenger hunts and live cooking demos featuring American flavor profiles.
Celebrating through even more cuisine will be backyard barbecues and summer desserts, as well as breakfast dishes including Berry Spangled Brioche with berry compote and blueberry whipped cream, Yankee Doodle Waffles with mixed berries, whipped cream and granola, and Stars and Stripes Parfait with vanilla Greek yogurt, mixed berries and granola. Dinner selections include dry-rubbed beef, smoked pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, broiled salmon with pico de gallo, Texas vegetarian chili and chicken gumbo.
Special celebratory collaborations extend to Jefferson’s Bourbon’s aged-at-sea Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon, Crane Stationery’s handcrafted cards designed by members of the United States Veterans’ Artists Alliance and Pendleton Woolen Mills’ bespoke Alaska-inspired throw blankets.
