Culinary Packages in Piedmont, Italy

Jul 24, 2009

The Piedmont region of Northern Italy is world renowned for its cuisine and fine wines, and visitors to this corner of the world can truly maximize their vacations with inventive culinary tours provided by tour operators, Conitours and Tour Gourmet.

Just a mere mention of white truffles — one of the most sought-after ingredients in contemporary cuisine — can make just about any foodie salivate. But a chance to hunt for truffles with a master trifolau (truffle hunter) and his dog is an experience that food-lovers shouldn’t miss out on.

For approximately, $400 per person, double occupancy, Conitours is offering an inventive truffle-hunting package, which includes two nights’ accommodations, buffet breakfast, a visit to the Langa wine cave with a wine tasting, a truffle hunt with a master trifolau, a gourmet dinner at the Michelin-rated Delle Antiche Contrade restaurant and much more.

Additional nights are available for about $70 more, and a complimentary room upgrade will be given, based on availability. The package is available in October and November — prime time for harvesting truffles.

Food and nature is also the focus of Tour Gourmet’s two-day tour de force in South East Piedmont. On the first day, clients will explore Asti and Alessandria with a visit to the Sezzadio Abbey and the Acqui thermal baths before stopping off at an 18th century farm and its bountiful vineyards in Gavi. There, clients will be lead through a seminar on wine and a wine tasting.

On the second day of the tour, clients visit a dairy in Bormida Valley for a tasting of some of the dairy’s finest cheeses, including Piedmont’s famous Robiola di Roccaverano. The next stop is Bubbio, where clients will visit a producer of traditional amaretto, followed by a sampling of the sweet drink.

The package, which costs about $250 per person, includes accommodation in a four-star hotel, breakfasts, guided visits to castles and museums, a welcome cocktail and most meals.
