In June, for the first time since the early 1900s, a seaplane took passengers on a soaring tour of Venice, according to tour operator Seawings Seaplane Tours. Guests experienced tremendous views of the Venetian landscape as well as first-class hospitality and post-flight Bellinis.
With the inaugural flight, the company has launched its new set of Venice tours. Seawings picks up passengers at Venice’s Saint Mark’s Square, transports them to San Clemente Island by boat, then the group takes flight over the Venetian lagoon in a Seawings seaplane.
It was the vision of Stuart Wheeler, director of Jet Ops Europe Ltd, an affiliate of Seawings, to relaunch guided aerial tours in Venice. Wheeler is extremely pleased with the outcome.
“We are proud to be a part of this historic moment,” he said. “To be part of the first commercial seaplane flight in Venice in 100 years is a true privilege.”
Flying at an elevation of 1,500 feet, Seawings planes take travelers past some of the most iconic Venetian landmarks, including the nearby islands of San Pietro and Giudecca. Throughout the duration of the tour, a knowledgeable guide will comment on the landmarks seen during the flight and their historical significance.
Seawings flights run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., departing every 30 minutes. The tours cater to individuals as well as groups and business travelers. Each flight lasts approximately 30 minutes and costs approximately $455 per adult.
