Fiji Airways Offers Relief to Anxious Parents

May 18, 2015

Any time an individual flies long distances with a child, the actual flight is probably the most significant source of anxiety. There is a lot to take into account: ease of the flight for the child, happiness of the other people on the plane and, of course, your own sanity. A bad flight starts the family vacation off on the wrong foot and can cause continued dread over the foreseeable flight home.

That's why, on a recent trip to Fiji with my 10-year-old daughter, I was so relieved to discover that Fiji Airways provides one of the best long-haul options available.

Even though I knew Fiji Airways was named Best Airline in the South Pacific by Global Traveler magazine for two consecutive years, I had not flown the airline before and was pleasantly surprised by all aspects of the flight.

The A330-200 aircraft we flew on was immaculate and felt brand-new. (In fact, the plane was introduced as part of the fleet just two years ago as part of a major rebranding.) Business Class offerings include 8-degree lie-flat beds, in-seat power outlets and personal entertainment on demand __ everything one needs to keep a 10-year-old comfortable and entertained.

The food was outstanding as well, with a menu created by renowned chef Lance Seeto. Later in the trip, we were able to spend some time with Seeto and dine at his amazing restaurant at Castaway Island Fiji resort. I can tell you first-hand that Setto is insightful and intelligent. His mission is to promote the foods of Polynesia to the world, and visitors get a great introduction to his inspired cuisine on Fiji Airways' flights.

Plus, in addition to the stellar in-flight service, Fiji Airways has a new state-of-the-art Business Class lounge at LAX.

With flights to Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere in the South Pacific __ and the ability to add a stopover in Fiji in either direction __ I'll be looking for an excuse to fly Fiji Airways again.
