Visit London Introduces The 'BFG' Dream Jar Trail

A tiny human contentedly swimming nose to nose with a giant whale, an amorous couple in a hot-air balloon soaring above the Irish countryside, a worry-free child holding a towering stack of sweets, an ice cream van atop a globe that resembles a generous scoop of the frozen treat — these are just a few of the 50 Dream Jars sprinkled throughout London and beyond in a public art installation called The BFG Dream Jar Trail. And just like the late author Roald Dahl’s beloved Big Friendly Giant (BFG) does in the book-turned-film “The BFG,” little ones can discover the beauty of wonderful and wild dreams up close.

nvisioned by high-profile individuals including “The BFG” director Steven Spielberg, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, theoretical physicist Steven Hawking, model Naomi Campbell and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Dream Jars have been brought to life by artists and can mostly be found at London’s popular and iconic sites, such as Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. Some, however, have also made their way to other cities in the U.K., including Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Birmingham.

Each sculpture will be auctioned to benefit Save the Children and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. Maps of suggested mini-trails are available online, and the installation will be displayed until Aug. 31.
