SPOTLIGHT: OAHU

9.26: Aloha Festivals’ Floral ParadeThousands of people share their aloha during Hawaii’s most famous parade, celebrating its 69th anniversary this year. The procession includes pau riders (women and men on flower-strewn horses), floats, hula troupes and marching bands. The free spectacle begins at Ala Moana Park and ends in Waikiki’s Kapiolani Park.

9.20: Festival of Aloha. Music and hula fill the courtyard and ballroomat Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel during this daylong celebration of Hawaiiana. Now in its fourth year, the event also features local craft vendors, food booths serving island favorites and an appearance by Hawaii’s Royal Court, wearing ceremonial garb. Entry is free.

KAUAI

9.20-9.26: Kauai Mokihana Festival. Kauai’s heritage is celebrated throughout the week. Visitors can enjoy cultural demonstrations, concerts, exhibitions, food, storytelling and arts and crafts displays at various venues. Highlights include a children’s music competition, a Kauai composers contest and hula performances.

MAUI

9.20: Maui Marathon. One of the most scenic marathons in the U.S., this point-to-point race begins in Kahului and ends in Kaanapali. Along the way, participants are treated to ocean views from seaside highways. Visitors can also sign up for a half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 1-mile run through Lahaina town.

OAHU

9.27: Honolulu Century Ride. A pedal party since 1981, Hawaii’s largest cycling event draws thousands of riders from Hawaii and around the world. Participants of all ages and abilities can saddle up for 25-, 50-, 75- or 100-mile routes, starting and ending at Kapiolani Park. Proceeds go toward Hawaii Bicycling League, which helps keep Hawaii’s roads safe for everyone.
