AMResorts Breaks Ground On First-Ever Property in Mazatlan

Apple Leisure Group (ALG) is expanding its global footprint with the recent groundbreaking of Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan, the first-ever Dreams Resorts & Spas branded property in Mazatlan, Mexico.

As part of AMResorts’ first brand management deal in the area, the development also includes Estrella del Mar, a private gated golf and residential community set on more than 900 acres with 3.5 miles of beachfront.

Jose Eduvigildo Carranza Beltran, president of Group Pinsa, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for the two properties on March 24, with guests including Miguel Torruco Marques, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico; Alejandro Reynal, CEO of ALG; and  Alex Zozaya, chairman for ALG.

“The anticipated arrival of Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan further underscores the growth trend and revenue potential of luxury all-inclusive properties in Mexico and beyond,” said Javier Coll, Group President of Global Business Development with Apple Leisure Group. “Apple Leisure Group closed four times as many hotel management deals in the past year compared to typical years, including Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan. While ALG continues to break records with its global expansion, we remain committed to Mexico and the wealth of opportunities we’ve identified for hotels owners to maximize their return on investment in the region.”

The resort will feature 350 beachfront suites, including 29 swim-out suites and a separate adults-only section. Throughout the property, locally sourced materials will be used to highlight the natural elements and vegetation of the site. Various amenities located along the central pedestrian walkway will also draw inspiration from the historic center of Mazatlan.

Mexico remains a cornerstone of Apple Leisure Group’s global expansion strategy because of the number of destinations it offers that have yet to be explored by most North American travelers.

Beyond the guestrooms, guests can dine at any of the five gourmet restaurants, which will serve dishes from diverse international cuisines. The property will also feature multiple pools, an aquatic park and a lazy river, all of which face the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, there will be a theater and a convention center for up to 700 people, overlooking the golf course.

Guests will have access to this 18-hole professional golf course and also be able to unwind at the resort’s Spa and Wellness Center. With more than 1,800 square feet of space, the spa facility includes a hydrotherapy area with waterfalls, whirlpools, geysers, a panoramic sauna and a hammam. As an added bonus, each treatment room is also outfitted with a private terrace.

Upon its opening (anticipated for December 2022), Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan will be the 20th Dreams Resorts & Spas branded property in the AMResorts portfolio. With this deal, the company remains on pace to reach its goal of more than 100 branded properties by the end of 2021.
