Without question, it’s the service. We have many repeat customers, so it is important for us to remember all the details, such as their names and their favorite drinks. What on-site activity or feature at Casa de Campo shouldn’t be missed?
Popular features are our three golf courses, considered by many to be some of the best in the world. For those who aren’t golfers, there’s Catalina Island, which is only a 25-minute catamaran ride away. It is absolute paradise, with beautiful beaches, snorkeling or just the opportunity to relax. Each day there are scheduled departures that bring guests to the island from our resort. Private lunches can also be arranged.
What off-site excursion should visitors be sure to do?
If a person is a little more adventurous, I recommend a dune-buggy excursion that’s about 15 minutes away. It’s a great way to experience nature, but you definitely come back dusty and muddy. For those who are more into culture, I would recommend taking a day trip and guided tour of Santo Domingo, our country’s capital. There is a lot of rich history there, from cathedrals to the Colonial Zone to wonderful museums.
For guests who want to experience a proper Dominican meal, where do you suggest?
They shouldn’t miss mofongo. It’s a popular dish in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and the main ingredient is plantains. You can add anything you like to it — chicken, pork or seafood, for example. Try it at our great on-site Latin restaurant, La Cantina, in Altos de Chavon, a small village on Casa de Campo.
As a concierge, what has been the most surprising way you helped a guest?
Most recently I worked with a guest who brought his wife to Casa de Campo for their anniversary. He called ahead of time to arrange for a surprise basket of wine, cheeses, crackers and flowers. I created a personalized card for them, but instead of going to the store to buy one, I had our graphic design team create a unique one. They loved it and were so thankful for the gesture.
