Verdanza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico has launched the Muse Room, an unconventional meeting space designed to foster innovation in corporate management. The Muse Room, named in honor of the goddesses of inspiration in Greek Mythology, is not set up as a standard meeting room; instead, it was conceived to be more of a playroom for professionals, where the surfaces of the walls and even the conference table are designed for people to doodle, draw and put their ideas in writing. The room also has all of the customary sound and video facilities for a successful business meeting.
“The idea behind Muse — the first of its kind in a hotel in Puerto Rico — is for people to give free reign to their imagination in a relaxed atmosphere that encourages interaction and the flow of ideas,” explained Ricky Newman, general manager of Verdanza Hotel.
To facilitate an informal and free exchange, small ottomans can be laid out so that attendees may kick back as they would in their own living room with friends.
To recharge batteries, a menu of options is available. These include in-room shiatsu massages, videogames, fruit smoothies and sushi.
“Besides allowing a work team to break from the routine and avoid interruptions, Muse is a space to think outside the bubble, to maximize the creativity of each member of a management team,” added Newman.
Verdanza Hotel is an independent full-service hotel. The 222-room property is located near the beach in the Isla Verde tourism district. Verdanza has three restaurants, a wine and tapas bar, a cafe, a pool area with Jacuzzi, a pet park and 16,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and banquet space. Perks for guests include free Internet access, organic bath products, pet-friendly guestrooms and a location within walking distance of restaurants, casinos and entertainment options.
