ME by Melia has officially launched its flagship hotel, ME London, a sleek minimalist lifestyle hotel located at the center of London’s art and culture district. The newly-built hotel has 157 guestrooms, including 16 suites and a single Suite ME, a two-story penthouse located in the turret of the building. The 325-square-foot Suite ME offers views of the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and the River Thames from both the suite and its private terrace. The hotel also has balcony rooms providing river views. Rooms and suites feature rainforest showers, floor-to-ceiling windows, Egyptian linen, individual climate control and up-to-the-minute technology providing access to the hotel’s integrated digital media hub.
The ME by Melia brand has an interesting take on how they target a market. Instead of relying on demographic data, they concentrate on creating a hotel experience that will appeal to a particular psychographic; in this case, the traveler with a taste for taste for cutting-edge art and design, international cuisine and world music. Each guest’s stay is orchestrated by one of the hotel’s “aura managers,” whose job it is to provide an insider’s knowledge of London while also performing butler duties.
Dining venues at ME London include the Radio Rooftop Bar, presenting a panoramic view of London; the Marconi Lounge, a cafe by day and cocktail lounge by night; STK London, a steakhouse and grill; and Cucina Asellina, offering a contemporary take on rustic Italian food.
The hotel also has a fitness center and offers in room spa treatments. Meeting space is available for groups as small as eight members up to groups of 300, in six flexible meeting rooms and one large function space.
While its eye-catching pyramidal architecture screams modernity, the ME London occupies a historic corner - Aldwych and the Strand - once the home of London’s Gaiety Theatre. The hotel is also adjacent to the recently restored Marconi House that was the former home of the BBC and where their first radio broadcast took place in 1922.
