The Brando, a new luxury eco-resort, will debut on the private island of Tetiaroa in July. The resort will be the first all-inclusive luxury property in French Polynesia.

The Brando promises a VIP experience when it opens this summer, inspired by its star-studded past. The resort’s namesake is actor Marlon Brando, who purchased Tetiaroa as his own private paradise in 1967. The Brando draws on the actor’s legacy and his vision of creating a sustainable, luxury establishment that allows guests to experience the island’s unique wildlife, culture and heritage.

“There’s only one word to describe Tetiaroa — extraordinary,” said Jack Richards, president and CEO of Pleasant Holidays, which has begun sales for The Brando. “It’s absolutely huge, unspoiled and beautiful. The resort itself sits on just under 200 acres."

The Brando comprises 35 separate, one-, two- and three-bedroom villas, all of which are beachfront and include their own private plunge pools. A library, a tennis court, an organic garden and orchard and luxury boutiques are also on the premises. All-inclusive packages for guests include all meals and 24-hour room service; most beverages; one special excursion per person per day; one 50-minute spa treatment each day per villa; one bicycle per guest for use throughout his or her stay; use of assorted watersports equipment, including canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and snorkel gear; laundry service and Internet access.

Situated in a region of tremendous natural beauty and biodiversity, the resort promises exceptional opportunities for wildlife encounters and photography. The property has also gone to great lengths to enact eco-friendly practices. The Brando features SWAC (sea water air conditioning) and an EcoStation where research scientists study native wildlife and can share their knowledge with guests. So far, they have discovered approximately 160 different species of fish on the island alone.

Because of its seclusion, luxurious accommodations and unique setting, The Brando will be an ideal location for a romantic vacation, especially for honeymooners.

“I think this will become one of the largest honeymoon destinations in the world,” said Richards. “Tahiti and Bora Bora provide a majority of our honeymoon business, and I think this takes it to another level. To visit a private island for a honeymoon is probably a once-in-a-lifetime trip for most people in the U.S., and I think that aspect of it alone will attract a lot of people.”

Getting There

Tetiaroa is a short 20-minute flight from Tahiti’s Papeete Airport, where The Brando owns a private lounge exclusive to its guests. The Brando’s private planes will run several transfers to Tetiaroa per day, according to demand. From Tetiaroa’s private airfield, guests will be escorted to their villas by electric vehicles.
