Amid broad expansion efforts, Peninsula Hotels are offering
several winter packages at properties in Asia, including a
complimentary tour of Beijing’s ancient hutong districts,
the traditional courtyard houses where families have lived for
generations, but which are gradually disappearing as the city
modernizes.
Through Feb. 28, the recently refurbished Peninsula Palace is
offering a more than two-hour hutong tour conducted by
pedicab, with the driver acting as tour guide to explain the scenic
spots and heritage highlights along the way. Guests also will get
to explore an original courtyard house as well as see a drum tower,
bell tower, Hai Hou Lake and Prince Gong Mansion.
Meanwhile, the company’s Peninsula Hong Kong, the city’s oldest
hotel and a Hong Kong landmark, is offering a heritage program that
celebrates a Hong Kong icon the city’s neon lights, more neon
lighting even than Las Vegas and one of the largest neon signs in
the world.
Also through Feb. 28, Peninsula guests are offered a 45-minute
tour of the neon lights that illuminate Kowloon’s famous “Golden
Mile” and neighboring streets, as well as the Christmas and Chinese
New Year light displays on Hong Kong harbor.
The tour aboard an open-top vintage bus is followed by a
champagne reception on the Peninsula’s Sun Terrace where guests can
take in the Hong Kong skyline and festive lighting before a
three-course set dinner for two at the Peninsula Lobby with a
bottle of Peninsula Blend chardonnay or merlot.
The entire package costs just $89 for two, plus 10 percent
service charge, or is complimentary for guests.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Hotels said it also will end its membership
in Leading Hotels of the World when its contract expires this
month, and instead will manage its reservations, marketing and
distribution programs through the company’s corporate marketing
department and Global Customer Service Centre. The move comes as
two new Peninsula hotels in Tokyo and Shanghai are set to open.
