Shangri-La Opens Hotel in Istanbul

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is known for its high-end resorts in Asia, but the luxury brand is working to expand its reach. Earlier this month, the company celebrated the opening of Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul. The 186-room property is located in the financial and entertainment district of Besiktas near to the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Dolmabahce Palace and Maritime Museum and the upscale boutiques of Nisantasi. The Old City of Istanbul is a short distance away, where visitors will find the Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. The six-story Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul is actually a restored historic building that was formerly a tobacco warehouse. The hotel has an additional six floors built underground to preserve the building’s historic integrity.

The hotel’s 169 guestrooms and 17 suites have private terraces providing Istanbul city views as well as views of the Bosphorus Strait. All rooms come with complimentary high-speed Internet access. Additional amenities and features include bath amenities from Bulgari, Nespresso coffee machines and heated bathroom floors. Rooms have a minimum size of 453 square feet, while suites range between 860 square feet to 3,940 square feet.

The hotel’s Lobby Lounge has a tea lounge and bar, where guests can have breakfast, lunch and an afternoon tea service, followed by tapas and evening entertainment. Dining options at the Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul include the all-day venue Ist Too which serves variety of Asian and Mediterranean dishes and also includes a Japanese sushi bar. Shang Palace serves Cantonese cuisine and comprises a main dining area, intimate booths, a private dining room and a wine room.

The hotel will also have Shangri-La’s signature Chi, The Spa.  The spa has eight suites, all with bathrooms, changing rooms, treatment rooms, and lounges. An interesting touch will be the three Turkish hammams. One hammam is reserved for men, one hammam is reserved for women and the third is trserved for a single couple. Hotel guests also have access to a heated indoor pool and a health club.

Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul has two ballrooms and nine conference and function rooms all located on the same floor. All venues feature state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.
