Viceroy Hotel Group recently announced that it will open the Viceroy Maldives in December. The luxury resort, which is currently under construction, is located on the island of Vagaru, which is within the Shaviyani Atoll, north of the capital, Male. It will be Viceroy’s first property to be located outside of the U.S. and is being developed in partnership with Mubadala Development Company.
“The addition of Viceroy Maldives to our resort portfolio, especially on the heels of three 2009 Viceroy openings and our concurrent development of Viceroy Beverly Hills and Viceroy Abu Dhabi, represents an important next step in the growth and increasingly global focus of our company,” said Brad Korzen, Viceroy Hotel Group founder and CEO.
The resort will feature 61 luxury villas, situated over the crystalline water and on the beaches surrounding the 17-acre Vagaru Island. Villas will range in size from 1,345 to 3,300 square feet of indoor space; they will also have outdoor private areas, all of which will include plunge pools. The property will also offer five unique food and beverage outlets; an over-water spa and fitness center; a signature cantilevered pool and pool deck; and a full-service dive and watersports activities center.
