This year, American Queen Steamboat Company is borrowing a popular concept from European rivers — Christmas Market cruises — and offering its own this year on the Mississippi River.
On the company’s nine-day cruises between Memphis, Tenn., and New Orleans, guests can enjoy the locally produced crafts, holiday goodies and music of Christmas Markets, along with strolling carolers in St. Francisville, La., and departure serenades from the levees of Vicksburg and Natchez, Miss. Additionally, cruisers will be able to partake in Christmas Markets in Greenville, Miss., and at Nottoway Plantation in Louisiana.
“We are excited to offer these new holiday cruises that incorporate the local traditions and festivities of our beloved river communities as a way to celebrate the 2015 season,” said Ted Sykes president and chief operating officer of American Queen Steamboat Company.
Nine-day, old-fashioned holiday sailings onboard American Queen from Memphis to New Orleans depart Nov. 21 (with a Thanksgiving feast included) and Dec. 19. Sailings from New Orleans depart Nov. 28 and Dec. 12, when guests can enjoy a holiday ball at Louisiana’s historic Nottoway Plantation, known as the “White Castle.” The evening will feature costumed carolers and dancers in the gardens and front lawn before guests enter the mansion for a private Cajun-style dinner.
All cruises include a one-night pre-voyage hotel stay, shore tours in all ports and complimentary wine and beer with dinner.
