Adventures by Disney Adds Egypt in 2011

Aug 13, 2010

Beginning July 21, agents can book clients on an adventure to visit the land of pyramids, pharaohs and ancient treasures next year with Adventures by Disney. In addition to selling the tour operators brand-new eight- and 10-day excursions to Egypt, agents can also offer 18 other worldwide destination tours for 2011.

The company’s 2011 itineraries feature trips to Italy and Costa Rica in the Adventures by Disney Signature Collection, with options to book enhanced travel experiences. Signature enhancements include accommodation upgrades, unique VIP gifts, private airport transfers and special entertainment.

Clients can also select from the line’s popular Gateway Collection trips that visit England and France, as well as Italy. The Gateway Collection provides travelers with the flexibility to explore the sites on their own while still enjoying the unique benefits of an Adventures by Disney vacation at a great value.

The 2011 itineraries also feature a Classic Collection of tours, with trips to North America, including Alaska; Arizona and Utah; Southern California; Montana and Alberta; Canada; Washington, D.C.; and Wyoming; Central and South America, including Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands; Europe, including England, France, Germany, Ireland and multiple Italy itineraries (with one that includes Switzerland); as well as trips to Australia, China, South Africa and the newly introduced Egypt excursions.

Exploring the Exotic in Egypt
The eight-day Egypt: Pyramids, Pharaohs & Ancient Treasures vacation begins with a welcome dinner and three-days in Cairo, where clients will be able to explore the Great Pyramids and Sphinx complex, the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, the Citadel of Saladin and the Great Mosque of Mohammad Ali. It also includes an opportunity to shop and dine in the Khan el-Khalili market, Cairo’s ancient souk (a term for the commercial quarter in an Arab city, often used to designate the market).

The family vacation then shifts to southern Egypt for a three-day cruise on the Nile River, aboard a traditional Egyptian sailing craft (called a felucca) that has plied the river’s waters for thousands of years. Clients will then travel into the Valley of Kings to visit the tombs of pharaohs Tutankhamen and Ramses VI. One additional night in Cairo completes the trip and includes a farewell banquet. A licensed Egyptologist accompanies clients throughout Cairo and through the Nile Valley.

Other highlights of the trip include riding a camel at the Great Pyramids; learning to make papyrus; writing Egyptian hieroglyphics; receiving temporary henna tattoos; dressing like an Egyptian; and being entertained by Egyptian musicians, belly dancers and whirling dervishes. Junior adventurers can play an art detective game while at the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.

The 10-day option adds two exciting days, following the Nile cruise, to spend in the city of Sharm el Sheikh, a resort destination perched at the tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Here, clients have the opportunity to snorkel among the tropical fish and colorful coral reefs of the Red Sea.
