Globus Goes South (and Central America) in 2010

Nov 01, 2009

Globus Family of Brands is offering travelers new opportunities to experience the natural beauty and ancient history of Central America in 2010.

One such itinerary is the new nine-day Costa Rica Wonders package, available through Monograms. The trip begins with a city tour of the capital, San Jose, where clients can visit the National Theater and Natural Museum. Next, clients tour banana plantations before reaching Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica's national gem, dedicated to protecting endangered turtles. There, clients explore the Tortuguero Canals as their guide navigates them through regions of remote flora and fauna, freshwater turtles, herons, toucans and monkeys. After, clients transfer by boat to Sarapiqui and tour the Corsicana Pineapple Farm before traveling through the Tilajari Rainforest Reserve to spend two nights at the Tilajari Resort. This palace affords clients the opportunity to spend time at the iridescent Butterfly Garden or take a soak in the Ecotermales Hot Springs. Clients can also enjoy a walk among the 300- to 400-year-old trees of the nearby tropical rainforest and see the enormous crater of Poas Volcano, with its deep, turquoise-emerald lake. Espresso aficionados can learn about coffee production at the Doka Coffee Plantation before returning to civilization in San Jose for the last night of the tour. Departure dates take place throughout 2010 and part of 2011, with standard package prices ranging from $1,549 to $1,649 per person.

Globus’ river cruise brand, Avalon Waterways, is also offering a brand-new river cruise itinerary, the nine-day Ecuador & the Galapagos tour, which travels from Quito, Ecuador, to Guayaquil, Ecuador. Highlights include a three-night cruise in the Galapagos, sightseeing in Quito and a two-night stay at the Finch Bay Hotel on the Galapagos Islands. The cruise has departure dates throughout 2010, and is priced from $3,379 per person, based on double occupancy.

Globus' 12-day trip to the Maya Civilizations of Honduras, Guatemala and Belize appeals to amateur archeologists and "Indiana Jones" enthusiasts. This trip begins in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and includes visits to the colorful Indian market and Church of Saint Tomas at Chichicastenango. Clients can also tunnel through the underground passages of 16th-century Spanish Colonial architecture of Antigua. From Antigua, the Maya experience intensifies as clients travel to Copan, Honduras, the former site of the Maya kingdom with the greatest collection of Maya stone sculptures to be found in Central America. The next tour destination is San Ignacio, Belize, where clients embark on an excursion to the largest Maya archeological site in Caracol, Belize. Here, clients have an opportunity to see the great Caana Pyramid, towering at 140 feet high and claiming the title of tallest manmade structure in Belize. The tour finishes with a farewell dinner in Belize. This trip has departure dates throughout 2011, averaging at a rate of $2,559 per person.
