Globus Launches New Tours in Australia and China

Globus Family of Brands is launching two new tours in Australia and China in 2014.

The G’Day Australia and Treasures of China tours are designed to venture outside of typical tourist attractions, while still hitting the major sites that first-time visitors are eager to see. We spoke with Ryan Droegemueller to get the inside scoop on Globus’ new offers.

G’Day Australia

The G’Day Australia tour is a new key player in Globus’ lineup. The 14-day program includes unique new sites and is one of two Australia-only tours from Globus. This tour does not include the Outback, so it is ideal for those who want to dig into the authentic culture and history in Australia, but are less interested in traversing the desert region. The program visits Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and Adelaide. While still visiting key Australia attractions like the Great Barrier Reef and the Sydney Opera House, the G’Day Australia tour features sightseeing destinations that are unique and exclusive to this itinerary.

  • Sydney: A daytrip to the Blue Mountains is an optional excursion on some of Globus’ Australia tours, but was so popular that it is included on this tour
  • Melbourne: Enjoy lunch and a wine tasting at a local winery in the Yarra Valley
  • Cairns: Hike through Mossman Gorge with an Aboriginal guide
  • Adelaide: Visit Kangaroo Island for extraordinary wildlife and rock formations

The Fiji Extension

Just in time for the launch of its new Australia tour, Globus’ popular extension to its South Pacific tours, Fiji, is back on the menu after a brief departure in 2013. The extension was removed following some trouble with flights to and from the destination.

“We are now 100 percent confident that air schedules will be operating as they should,” said Droegemueller. “Fiji is definitely not something we wanted to lose and we are really happy to have it back. Many of our passengers, about 35 to 40 percent, go to Fiji at the end of their tour.”

Treasures of China

In Asia, the company’s small group tours of no more than 20 people allow for a more hands-on experience and a higher level of service than in larger tour groups.

The Treasures of China tour is a small group tour that explores Chinese culture through hands-on activities and special trips. Part of what makes this tour unique is its emphasis on exploring beyond the major cities of Beijing and Shanghai, and venturing away from the main tourist draws.

The Treasures of China itinerary includes the following cultural activities:

  • In Shanghai, Globus has added a trip to the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao.
  • Tour of a local silk reeling factory to learn about the silk-making process
  • A trip to a local Chinese garden
  • A cruise on the Li River in Guilin, followed by a trip to a local tea farm. Visitors will learn about the tea-making process and participate in a tea ceremony, tasting 14 different kinds of tea.

Monograms

For travelers who prefer a planned itinerary without the tour group, Globus’ sister brand Monograms may be the way to go. Like Globus, Monograms is offering a new 12-day China program, Captivating China, which covers famous tourist attractions as well as local hidden treasures.

“With Monograms, we’re able to customize the trips for individual travelers,” said Droegemueller. “There is more included sightseeing for Monograms in 2014, specifically in Asia, but we’ve still left free time for people to do things on their own. We offer choices of hotels, from those for more budget-conscious travelers up to the highest-rated hotels in each of our destinations. We really have something for almost everybody.”
