Scott Dunn Partners With Conservation Collective for Nature Restoration

Luxury tour operator Scott Dunn has formed a partnership with environmental charity Conservation Collective to fund grassroots nature restoration projects in global destinations. The collaboration's initial phase will target Sri Lanka's threatened aquatic habitats through community-based conservation efforts.

The project addresses challenges posed by invasive water hyacinth, which has disrupted Sri Lanka's waterways since its introduction in 1906. The rapidly growing plant clogs water systems, reducing oxygen and sunlight availability for aquatic life while degrading water quality and biodiversity.

Scott Dunn guests can contribute directly to the Lanka Environment Fund, which will coordinate restoration efforts through local Sri Lankan partner Foundation of a Good Life. The initiative will identify and support local businesses working to convert the invasive plant into sustainable commercial products including woven furniture, bioplastics and natural fertilizer.

The removal process aims to benefit regional wildlife by restoring access to feeding and nesting areas for migratory and native birds, improving water access for Asian elephants during dry seasons and reestablishing oxygen levels necessary for amphibians and fish populations.

“Our exciting new partnership with Conservation Collective creates a pathway for guests of Scott Dunn to directly fund the restoration and preservation of the natural world, in a meaningful and impactful way,” said Charlie Darlington, Scott Dunn’s sustainability and nature positive tourism lead. “Our flagship project in Sri Lanka is particularly inspiring; the goal is not only to restore and preserve crucial ecosystems, but also to create sustainable economic and social opportunities for the communities involved. By supporting the Lanka Environment Fund, we’re ensuring that our guests’ donations are funding a hyper-local, innovative grassroots organization.”

The Sri Lanka project serves as a template for integrating conservation funding into luxury travel experiences. The model focuses on community-led initiatives that address environmental challenges while creating sustainable economic alternatives for local populations.
