If you've seen the film "Sleepless in Seattle," then you've already seen Alki Beach. In the film, Sam Baldwin (played by Tom Hanks) flies a kite there with his young son, Jonah, while being spied on by secret admirer Annie Reed (Meg Ryan).
Although film buffs may want to add sandy Alki Beach to a Seattle itinerary for that fact alone, outdoor lovers should consider a visit there, too. The beach __ located on the northwest shore of West Seattle __ is a slight trek from downtown, but the 20-minute drive across the West Seattle Bridge comes complete with beautiful views of Mount Rainier. And, once clients arrive at Alki Beach, they are met with an equally stunning view of Puget Sound and the Seattle skyline (including the world-famous Space Needle). Another route to the beach involves taking the city's Water Taxi from Pier 50.
Clients visiting Alki Beach can take part in watersports such as kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding, or they can opt to walk, bike or roller-skate the trail along the water. The beach is also swimmable in the warmer months.
