Edition Hotels, a new brand conceived by hotelier Ian Schrager in partnership with Marriott International, will make its global debut on Oahu in October 2010.
Called Waikiki Edition, the new hotel is located on the site of the former Yacht Harbor Tower wing of the Ilikai Hotel.
Dubbed lifestyle hotels, each Edition property promises to function as a home away from home for leisure and business travelers by providing innovative design, modern services and trailblazing food, beverage and entertainment offerings. Marriott hopes the Edition brand will appeal to guests who seek a truly distinctive hotel experience.
“People do not want something derivative,” said Schrager, who is serving as a creative consultant and lending his vision for concept, design and marketing. "They want the real thing, and this is the whole idea behind Edition."
The 353-room Waikiki Edition will feature a restaurant by chef Masaharu Morimoto, full-service spa, outdoor movie theater, nightclub, two private pools and an intimate lobby bar hidden behind a secret passage. Guests of Waikiki Edition can sign up for Surf and Bikini Boot Camps, combining physical fitness, weight loss and customized spa menus. For weddings and special events, Waikiki Edition will have the largest luxury ballroom on Oahu.
Other Edition properties are scheduled to open in Istanbul, Mexico City, Barcelona and Bangkok.
