The personal sleep doctor to Dr. Oz, Dr. Michael Breus is a clinical psychologist and diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine who has been working in the field for 23 years. Breus has written several books on sleep, including The Power of When, which helps folks find out the perfect time to sleep, exercise and more based on their genetic chronotype — one of four classifications that go beyond the typical “early bird” and “night owl” paradigms.
Breus began consulting about sleep for the travel industry 15 years ago with Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, and has since worked with Princess Cruises, Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas and others.

Combining his knowledge and the best of Amangiri’s wellness offerings, the Restorative Sleep Retreat will feature intensive education about the science of sleep, as well as personalized schedules that recommend sleep times, spa treatments, food and more based on a participant’s chronotype. The program is best for those who want to improve their sleep — and put advice into practice. Guests will be given an Oura Ring sleep tracker, as well as a diary.
“Participants will be tracking their sleep, and we will be asking them to do things to improve it,” Breus said. “I want people to be involved. [The retreat is] not about sitting back and taking notes, but it’s also not for diagnosing sleep disorders.”
The Focus
Expect three 45-minute lectures per day on topics ranging from combating morning brain fog to understanding the effects of caffeine, cannabis and alcohol on sleep.
