ASTA's young professionals society (YPS) held its annual retreat in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 9-14 in conjunction with the International Destination Expo. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company hosted YPS and provided agents, all under the age of 40, with complimentary accomodations, meals, activities and excursions. Attendees conducted site inspections at 10 different resort properties, in addition to experiencing firsthand the variety of activities that Puerto Rico offers.
Excursions included waterfall hiking in El Yunque National Forest, kayaking in one of the famous bioluminescent bays and spelunking in the Rio Camuy Caves. Agents also braved the world’s highest zipline at Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park and attended the opening night of the Rincon International Film Festival.
To top it off, YPS conducted a roundtable discussion about the future of the travel industry. Conversation topics included how to encourage more young people to consider a career as a travel agent.
