Perhaps a characteristic more unique to the family reunion goers and planners is a reliance on the “tried and true.” In an era of new, unique and unusual types of travel, it is not surprising that the YPartnership National Leisure Travel Monitor found that 66 percent of leisure travelers find “a place I have never visited before” to be desirable or very desirable aspect when planning a trip.
Still, the survey suggested that nearly one third of leisure travelers prefer their travel experience in familiar surroundings.
A story in the March 2009 issue of Travel + Leisure (T+L) agrees. T+L spoke with 13 different family clans whose family reunion sites have become like part of the family. Many of the families have been holding reunions in the same location for more than a decade, while one family’s visits span almost 70 years at the same location. Below are T+L’s best resorts for family reunions, as selected by interviewed families.
