Despite the challenges of dealing with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recovering from the losses of 2020, some travel companies are still logging in big wins for the year. The latest to celebrate a milestone achievement is travel advisor network Avoya Travel.
On June 1, 2021, Avoya Travel, which provides services to more than 1,000 Independent Agencies in the Avoya Network, recorded its largest single day of sales in the company’s decades-long history. The record-breaking day represents a 21% increase in sales volume compared to the previous record, which was set in May 2019. It also comes on the heels of Avoya’s “Vacations to Take Now” campaign, promoting travel in 2021 and a Memorial Day sale that focused on 2022 and 2023 trips.
It’s been incredibly encouraging to see the rebuild of leisure travel in recent months and to have our highest sales day in company history happen during the COVID-19 pandemic is astounding.
Beyond the good news for Avoya Travel, statistics from the record day of sales also paint a positive picture for the travel industry. While the majority of sales on June 1 were for trips departing in 2022 and beyond, about 36% were for 2021 trips — a sign that there’s still potential to tap into the increasing demand for last-minute trips.
In terms of destinations, Europe had a strong showing that day, accounting for more than 45% of the sales, followed by the Caribbean and U.S. destinations. Travelers also favored luxury and premium brands, which made up the largest share of sales on that record-breaking day.
“We are very proud of the Independent Agencies in the Avoya Travel Network and their resiliency as they serviced travelers throughout a very difficult year,” said Steve Hirshan, Avoya’s senior vice president of sales. “The Avoya Network is ready to create unforgettable new vacation experiences for our mutual clients as travel resumes and Avoya’s historic day of sales on June 1 is a sign of the great things to come.”
After experiencing a noteworthy increase in sales throughout the first quarter of 2021 — beating several of 2019’s metrics — in addition to the resumption of cruising from U.S. ports, Avoya expects to see travel sales rebound even more in the coming months. Earlier this year Avoya was forecasting a full recovery to pre-pandemic revenue levels in the fourth quarter of 2022. Now, the company expects to reach that goal by the second quarter of 2022.
