Editorial: Travel Advisors Help Clients Make Sense of a Complicated World

As we go to press, new headlines continue to hit the travel industry like a whirlwind. While we all figure out how war in Ukraine will affect European travel, we have better news at home with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. All this volatility will leave some travelers feeling uncertain and, in many cases, nervous to plan future travel.

But as we all know, this is where travel advisors can truly shine.

These days, it is important for advisors to use whatever tools they can to help make sense of this increasingly complicated travel landscape. First, they should stay connected with suppliers and understand how a disruption in Europe could affect travel itineraries and schedules. They should keep informed on ever-changing COVID-19 protocols and regulations. Using their expertise to understand the situation travelers are facing is the best way advisors can help put their clients at ease. And TravelAge West will continue to assist advisors in whatever way we can through this confusing time.

As we talk about the value advisors bring to a complicated world, I want to highlight one of our long-running programs here at TravelAge West. For 17 years, the Trendsetter Awards for advisors have put a spotlight on the great work done by travel professionals in our industry. This year, there are four categories to enter: Best Use of Social Media; Upward Bound, Rock Star Agent Under 40; Best Targeted Marketing Idea; and Best Group Booking Sales Effort. Finalists will win fabulous travel prizes, will be featured on the cover of TravelAge West and will be hosted at the 2022 WAVE Awards black-tie dinner in Marina Del Rey, Calif. There is no fee to enter; just visit www.travelagewest.com/wave-awards/trendsetters to download an entry form. Advisors can nominate a deserving colleague, as well.

As we go into a season of disruption and change — in a year that already felt like a transition out of the pandemic — advisors have an opportunity to prove, yet again, how valuable they are to the travel industry overall.
