What:
Come January, clients with plans to visit Brazil will be able to obtain a visa online thanks to the country’s new electronic visa program.
Why it Matters:
Currently, U.S. citizens must visit a Brazilian embassy or consulate, or utilize another travel or visa service, in order to acquire a valid tourist visa prior to their trip. Through the new simplified system, however, the process will be online-only. Additionally, visas are expected to be approved within an estimated 72 hours. This streamlined process will be available to both leisure and business travelers. Australians were granted use of the electronic visa system as of Nov. 27; citizens of the U.S., Canada and Japan will join on Jan. 15.
Fast Facts:
- According to Marx Beltrao, Brazil’s minister of tourism, the measure is expected to increase foreign tourist inflows to Brazil by up to 25 percent.
