Arnie Weissmann is perhaps best known in the travel industry for his roles as the editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly, and executive vice president and editorial director for Northstar Travel Group (the parent company of Travel Weekly and TravelAge West). But Arnie didn’t just land in travel journalism by accident; rather, the unique experiences of his younger years — which were fueled by an insatiable curiosity to explore the world around him — greatly shaped him into the man he is today.
In the second installment of this two-part Humans of Travel interview (listen to part one here), Arnie and his daughter, Emma Weissmann, Associate Editor for TravelAge West, dive deep into a true highlight of Arnie’s life: an 18-month trip around the world with Emma’s mother. It was this trip — which included camping through Africa, nannying in Cyprus and working on his family’s kibbutz in Israel — that inspired Arnie to begin Weissmann Travel Reports, a paid subscription service for travel advisors. We’ll also get the inside scoop about Arnie’s fascinating 1991 trip to North Korea.
