Swedish travel experts Off the Map Travel recently announced a new floating hotel and spa that will freeze into the ice of Sweden’s Lule River in the winter and float on top of the water in the summer.
Called The Arctic Bath Hotel and Spa, the unique six-room property is inspired by the days when felled trees were transported downriver for processing. The circular hotel will also house one spa treatment room, four saunas, an outside cold bath, a hot bath, outside and inside showers and two dressing rooms. The open center of the Arctic Bath is designed for sunbathing, ice bathing and for those who wish to experience stargazing or Northern Lights viewing. Guests can also partake in the Arctic tradition of a cold-water plunge — a special technique has been developed to keep the center of the bath open during wintertime.
The accommodation is the result of a partnership with Off the Map Travel and the team behind Sweden’s Treehotel, which features rooms elevated in the forest treetops.
Completion of the hotel is expected for Dec. 1, 2018.
