Israel recently unveiled a new memorial in Tel Aviv’s Meir Park in order to commemorate members of the LGBT community who died during the Holocaust. The memorial’s pink triangle shape symbolizes the emblem gays and lesbians were forced to wear while being imprisoned in concentration camps. The monument also features short texts in English, German and Hebrew.
"The new memorial in the heart of Tel Aviv represents an important addition to our memory of the Holocaust," said Haim Gutin, Israel commissioner for tourism, North and South America. "It is only fitting for Tel Aviv, now considered one of the world’s most open and tolerant cities and most popular LGBT travel destinations, to be home to such an inspiring memorial."
