Going for the Gold

Aug 18, 2008

With a limited number of tickets available for this Summer’s Beijing Olympic Games, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts is offering guests who missed the games a chance to experience the Olympics well after the torch has been extinguished.

To do so, InterContinenal is offering guests exclusive Insider Experience packages that feature everything from private tours of the Beijing Olympic Village to overnight stays in a gold medalist’s guestroom in Qingdao’s Olympic Sailing Village.

In September, the InterContinental Beijing Beichen will open after housing athletes, coaches and officials during the games. Here, guests will receive: two tickets to relive the Olympics and swim in the Water Cube, or National Aquatics Center, where the swimming and diving events were held during the games; a guided rickshaw tour of the Beijing Olympic Village; two-nights’ accommodations in a deluxe room with Olympic Park views; a night excursion to Lotus Lane’s famous bars, restaurants and shops; complimentary breakfast for two; traditional Chinese welcome memento; and roundtrip airport transfers. The InterContinental Beijing Beichen Insider Experience package is available beginning in October, and rates start at $670, double occupancy.

The InterContinental Qingdao, which opens in October, is serving as the official venue for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta and is the only hotel located inside the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center. Beginning in October, guests can book a Qingdao Aquatic Insider Experience package that includes: a two-hour sailing excursion that includes a pre-sailing private fitness session; two-nights accommodation in an Olympic gold medal winner’s room overlooking the Olympic Marina and including Club InterContinental Lounge access; Olympic celebration champagne dinner; and a guided tour of the Olympic Marina. Rates start at $548, based on double occupancy.

Hong Kong, which hosted the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Games, is also home to the InterContinental Hong Kong, which sits on the edge of Victoria Harbour. The Insider Experience package at this hotel includes: one- or three-night accommodations in a Contemporary Harbourview room; Club InterContinental Lounge access; tai chi experience in the mornings; Chinese tui na massage treatment for two; signature Nine dragon cocktail at twilight in the Lobby Lounge; and an evening Aqua Luna cocktail cruise on Victoria Harbour (limited to three-night minimum stays). This package, which is available for booking now, starts at $713 for a one-night stay and $1,600 for a three-night stay, both rates based on double occupancy.

At the InterContinental Beijing Financial Street, a unique Insider Experience package consists of: guided tour of the exterior of the National Stadium — better known as the Bird’s Nest; an insider’s tour of Beijing’s 798 art district and other city highlights; two-night accommodations in a deluxe guestroom; and roundtrip airport transfers. Package is available beginning in September and rate starts at $860, based on double occupancy.
