The first FiVR/Ambassador Cups Golf Tournament will be held from
Jan. 27-Feb. 6, at some of the finest golf courses in the
Philippines. The charity event aims to provide an
intercity/interclub golf tournament while promoting the Philippines
as a golf haven as well as an ideal and affordable retirement
destination in the Asia-Pacific region, officials said.
Proceeds from the tournament will help finance the Gawad Kalinga
home projects, scholarships for students of the Manila Science High
School and construction of a school in Romblon province.
The winning team will be awarded the President Fidel V. Ramos
Champion’s Cup (FiVR Cup) named after the former Philippine
statesman, who is also a golfing aficionado. The individual
champion will receive the Ambassador Willy Gaa Champion’s Cup in
honor of the current Philippine Ambassador to the United
States.
Several runner-up prizes, as well as special award, including
longest drive and nearest to the pin, will be awarded to golfers
who will also compete for chances to win trophies and other prizes,
such as a roundtrip plane ticket to the Philippines.
Six games will be played on some of the Philippines’ best golf
courses and resorts. The first game on Jan. 29 will be held at
Splendido and Aoki, and two games are set for team play at Eagle
Ridge, while another two games will be held at Sherwood and
Midlands.
The final game will be the Butch Armada Celebrity Memorial Game,
a celebrity-laden event for fun and fund-raising at Riviera Golf
Club.
The awards banquet will be held on Feb. 6, hosted by the
Philippine Retirement Authority.
