SITA Combines India and Pakistan

Aug 15, 2005

SITA World Travel is offering India and Pakistan tour packages this fall, capitalizing on the region’s heritage.

Celebrating the India Pushkar Fair in November, the India tour travels the Rajasthan and the Thar Desert to Pushkar for the annual cultural bazaar, venturing through Rajasthan and the Thar Desert. The journey to Pushkar takes in the city of Delhi, as well as an elephant ride to the mountain fortress of Amber. In Pushkar, travelers stay in deluxe-tented campsites for the fair, which features camel radces, trading and shopping. The Pushkar Fair is a part of SITA World Travel’s Regal Rajasthan 17-day tour.

SITA also is the first North American tour operator to offer travelers originating from the United States and Canada to cross the India-Pakistan border on SITA’s Sikh Heritage Tour that visits the monuments and Sikh Gurdwaras of Pakistan.

The 11-day religious journeys one in mid-October and one in early February begin in Amritsar, India, where the Golden Temple in Amritsar is the central place of worship for the Sikh religion. The pilgrimage continues into Lahore, Pakistan, where travelers will visit the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh faith.

From Lahore, guests will embark on a two-day journey to Rawalpindi in northern Pakistan where pilgrims will find Panja Sahib, a temple whose walls were built around the site where Guru Nanak Dev Ji is said to have withheld a boulder from crushing him to death with the palm of his own hand. The Guru’s handprint on the boulder is visible, drawing hundreds of Sikhs to the site each year.
