10 Places to Propose in Saint Lucia

Clients looking for a romantic proposal destination should look no further than Saint Lucia, a Caribbean island so rich in natural beauty that grooms-to-be need little extra to set the scene before getting down on one knee. Forget coordinating a flash mob or popping the question in neon lights. Instead, choose from the following 10 sites on Saint Lucia, each one ideal for an intimate and beautiful proposal.

Mamiku Gardens
Within Mamiku Gardens are four smaller garden settings: the Mystic Garden, the Secret Gardens, Veronica’s Garden and the Herb Garden. Grooms-to-be might tour the 12-acre property in advance to find the secluded nook that appeals to them most — orchids, herbs and butterflies will be the only onlookers.

Tet Paul Nature Trail
For the more active couple, the 45-minute hike along the Tet Paul Nature Trail may be a fitting precursor to a proposal. Also known as “The Stairway to Heaven,” the trail cuts through approximately six acres of lush vegetation and offers great views of the water and other nearby islands. Keep in mind that this walk is a popular island activity, so other hikers will likely be present.

The Pitons
The Pitons are Saint Lucia’s natural bride and groom —  two volcanic peaks that stand side by side and jut right out of the ocean. The duo can be spotted from many different points on the island and make a gorgeous backdrop for a proposal. Two locations to consider are Jalousie Beach and Anse Chastanet Beach. Couples can actually hike to the summit of either peak, though they are required to go with a guide on Gros Piton. Travelers tackling Petit Piton can trek on their own.

Anse Mamin
This secluded beach is great for a no-frills proposal. If clients are staying at the luxurious Anse Chastanet Resort, Anse Mamin Beach is just a short walk away. The hotel can also arrange a water taxi to the location. Here couples can celebrate their engagement by snorkeling with tropical fish or soaking up the Saint Lucia sun.

Rainforest Adventures
The anticipation of proposing often gets a person’s adrenaline pumping, so why not embrace the excitement and propose high in the sky? Eco-adventure company Rainforest Adventures can literally elevate the big event with a gondola ride or a zipline tour through the rainforest canopy. If thrill-seekers fancy an evening proposal, the company offers the Adrenaluna zipline tour, where guests soar through the trees by moonlight and headlamp.

Pigeon Island National Landmark
Two beautiful beaches, military ruins and a lookout point with sweeping views of the sea make Pigeon Island National Landmark a scenic choice. The 44-acre reserve was once surrounded by water, but in 1972 a man-made causeway was built to connect it to Saint Lucia.

Marigot Bay
With plenty of hotels and bungalow rentals available, Marigot Bay is a great destination for a proposal getaway. Water taxis are available to whisk couples away to quiet, secluded shores. The bay is also known for its calm waters and abundant sea life, making it a popular landing spot for scuba divers.

Horseback Riding
It may be a cliche, but the image of horseback riding as the sun sinks below the horizon pulls just about everyone’s heart strings. Trim’s National Riding Academy offers a variety of options that set up a similar scene, including carriage rides at sunset and horseback tours that allow riders to swim in the ocean with their horses.

In the Waves
For couples who feel at home on the water, a sunset cruise in the Caribbean Sea can be easily arranged while on Saint Lucia. Mystic Man Tours out of Soufriere offers a sunset cruise that passes by the Pitons while sailing to Anse Chastanet, and complimentary appetizers and champagne are included. The company can also arrange private sunset cruises.

In the Air
If clients seek a more grandiose proposal story, asking for someone’s hand in marriage while flying above Saint Lucia’s lush landscape is a fitting option. Aerial tours with Saint Lucia Helicopters tour different regions of the island and range in length from 10 to 30 minutes. Prices begin at $98 per person.
